There are approximately 1,000 serving personnel, 450 reservists, 21,000 veterans, and their families living in Fife.

For most of these people, serving in the Armed Forces is or was a positive experience. However, some individuals experience adverse physical and mental health challenges, which can be compounded by other factors such as welfare and/or financial issues.

Members of the Armed Forces Community may also experience problems accessing appropriate services in comparison to the civilian population. This can be further complicated by a lack of understanding of the Armed Forces culture within civilian services.
