Shared Lives Fife provides family-based care in the homes of carers across Fife to adults with disabilities and mental health difficulties. It aims to match families or individuals who are willing to share their homes, lives, interests, experience and skills with adults who need support to live their lives to the full.
The approach offers long term support, support for short breaks for main carers to have a break and day opportunities. Support is delivered in the local community, is based on building relationships, is very personalised and gives the individual more choice in their lives.
“I am 20 years old. I am blind and lost my sight when I was nine. My Shared Lives family treat me almost like their own son. I feel relaxed and that their home is like my own home. This means I’m not a stranger and feel very much part of the community.”
