An Emergency Plan is a document that lets people know what needs to be done to support the person you care for if you are unable to carry out your caring role. Having an emergency plan can help to prevent an emergency from becoming a crisis.
An emergency plan is simple to prepare and you might not need help to write one. We have adopted the Emergency Planning Toolkit from ENABLE Scotland. To find out more, or to get started on your own plan visit www.enable.org.uk/emergencyplanning.
However, if you think you need some help to prepare an emergency plan free help is available. If you need help to prepare an emergency plan contact us or one of our carer partner organisations.
Further information: The Coalition of Carers in Scotland has developed a range of leaflets to help carers understand their rights as a carer. One of their leaflets is specifically about what you need to know when you make an emergency plan as a carer.
