Are you supporting someone who is living with a diagnosis of dementia?

Fife group STAND would like to invite you to their supper club.

The clubs are supported by Age Scotland About Dementia Team and the Partnership’s Community Chest Fund.

They are for people supporting someone living with a dementia diagnosis so they can meet with others, share experiences and benefit from peer support.

The group meets once at month in Rosyth and Kennoway.

On the last Friday of the month from 5 pm until 7 pm the supper club meets at Eats Rosyth, 115A Queensferry Road, Rosyth, KY11 2PS.

Upcoming dates are:

· Friday 27th September 2024,

· Friday 25th October 2024,

· Friday 29th November 2024.

And at Kennoway Community Shed, Cotlands Park, Kennoway, KY8 5HX from 6pm - 8pm on Wednesday's upcoming dates are:

· Wednesday 16th October 2024,

· Wednesday 20th November 2024,

· Wednesday 18th December 2024.

Thanks to funding support from the Partnership’s Community Chest Fund and the Age Scotland About Dementia Team those who go along are also treated to supper.

And that support also means STAND can pay for someone to support the person living with dementia if they are not able to be on their own at home while their family member or carer is at the event.

People who have attended so far at the two venues have given some really positive feedback:

“I find the family and friends group invaluable, supporting each other, hearing other people’s stories and giving and getting useful information.”

"I really don't know how I would have coped if it wasn't for STAND. The Wednesday meetings provide a safe and private space for all family and friends to ask questions, talk about their feelings and express their emotions in a safe space with other people in the same situation. I think that it is brilliant that people can attend knowing that their partners are safe at home. It is also important that people can be open with their talk without upsetting the people diagnosed with dementia. There is always a professional person available to answer questions"

“The group has been invaluable to me. The support, advice and being able to share with others and their experiences makes these monthly gatherings a highlight in my calendar. It’s a group I don’t feel guilty about not taking my mother in law along to. It’s like a breathing space, a calmness amidst the trials of caring for a loved one whose life is being

taken away in chunks to this awful illness. In my encounters with other carers I have gained knowledge in how to cope in difficult situations, also that we too have good days and definitely not so good days. The extra benefits of a fish shop meal is appreciated by us all. However, regardless of this wonderful extra, the friends and family group is worth its weight in gold. I am so grateful for all those who have made it happen and long may it continue.”
